Nkhotakota Police Station Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Paul Malimwe says the two have been identified as Evance Mussa, 32, of Maliseni Village and Aliya Zangaphe, 31, of Kaunda Village, both under Traditional Authority Mwadzama in Nkhotakota district.

According to Malimwe, it is suspected that the deceased was a well known criminal in the area.

“On August 23, 2020 around 23:40 hours, Paundi is suspected to have been caught stealing in Evance Mussa’s house, and the duo are suspected to have severely assaulted him before dumping him along Nkhotakota – Salima M5 road unconscious,”

“He was later taken to Nkhotakota District Hospital by well wishers and died on August 25, 2020 whilst receiving treatment,”. Malimwe says.

Postmortem reveals that Paundi died due to haemorrhage secondary to assault.

Malimwe says following the death, police arrested the two suspects and will appear before court soon to answer murder charges.
